Air Purifier Services in Idaho Falls, ID by Advanced Home Services
The terms for indoor air quality products can be confusing: air filter, air purifier, etc. The main difference between an air filter and an air purifier is that an air purifier uses electricity, in different ways, to capture and remove contaminants from your home, while an air filter uses a frame that contains filter media. Because air purifiers remove contaminants differently from air filters, they can be more affective at removing biological contaminants than air filters. The IAQ experts at Advanced Home Services understand how confusing the different types of indoor air quality products can be for homeowners, which is why we offer comprehensive air purifier services to our customers in the Idaho Falls, ID area. Whether you are interested in installing a new air purifier, repairing or replacing an existing one, or need annual maintenance, we are the specialists to call.

3 Types of Electronic Air Purifiers
There are three main types of air purifiers from which to choose:
- Electrostatic precipitators
- Ion Generators
- UV Germicidal Lights
Electronic Precipitators and Ion Generators
These two air purifiers use electricity to charge particles in order to capture and remove them, but each does so differently. An ion generator disperses negative ions into the air; these negative ions attach themselves to particles and contaminants and are drawn to the surfaces in your home where they land. When these surfaces are cleaned, the particles are removed. A precipitator works somewhat differently. All of the components of an electrostatic precipitator are contained in a small, metal cabinet. A fan draws air into a section of the cabinet known as the ionization chamber, where the particles and contaminants are charged. These newly–charged particles are then collected on oppositely–charged metal plates. These plates should be cleaned every 3 months to ensure that the component works correctly. Both of these air purifiers can remove allergens and biological contaminants.
UV Germicidal Lights
UV germicidal lights use electricity to generate UV–C rays. UV–C rays kink the DNA of biological contaminants while also destroying the life–sustaining proteins of the cell. The end result is total eradication of the contaminant. However, UV lights do not draw contaminants to them, nor do they have any effect on particles like dust or dander. UV lights are used only to remove biological contaminants, so it’s strongly advised that you pair UV lights with another type of IAQ product. Additionally, the lights are stationary, so it’s recommended that they are installed over the evaporator coils and/or in your ductwork.
